Why Does My Dog Always Stretch When She Sees Me?
Hi everyone,
This might be one of those “dogs are funny” moments, but I’m genuinely curious. Every time I come home or even just walk into the room, Luna, my German Shepherd, does this big, dramatic stretch before she comes over to say hi. She doesn’t seem stiff or uncomfortable if anything, it looks like her way of greeting me.
Does anyone else’s dog do this? I’ve read a little about “greeting stretches,” but I’d love to know if there’s more to it. Is it just her way of saying hello, or does it mean something else? Either way, it cracks me up every time!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Evan
Oh, my dog Charlie does something very similar! Every time I walk into the room, he’ll stretch out like he’s just woken up from a nap, even if he’s been sitting there for a while. It always makes me laugh! I’ve read that it’s often a way for dogs to greet us and express how comfortable they feel in our presence.
It could also be that Luna’s just doing a little “I’m ready for attention” stretch, which is so sweet. Charlie definitely does it to get some extra love, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Luna’s doing the same thing. It’s one of those little quirks that makes me smile every time, even if it’s totally normal behavior!
Hey Evan! Diesel does the same stretch before greeting me, and I’ve read that it’s a sign that he's ready to interact after being inactive. Luna’s probably just excited and stretching out before coming over to greet you
