Founder’s Story
A Note From Our Founder
My name is Hannah, and this is Rocket. Barklopedia began with my experience as a first time dog owner trying to support a very gentle and sensitive rescue dog.
When Rocket joined my life, I wanted to give him the best possible start, so I worked with several trainers. The first two used techniques that made Rocket visibly uncomfortable, and I immediately felt unsure about what I was being asked to do. I also knew that I would not feel comfortable replicating those practices on my own with him. At the time I did not have the knowledge to fully understand what I was observing, only the sense that it was not the right approach for Rocket and that he seemed more unsettled rather than more confident.
Everything changed when I eventually found a trainer who used modern, humane and reward based methods. Rocket responded positively and I saw how effective ethical and science informed training can be. That experience highlighted how confusing the dog training world can be and how important it is for owners to have access to trustworthy and transparent information.
Barklopedia grew from a simple question. Why is it so difficult for dog owners to find clear, reliable and up to date guidance about training and behaviour support. Today the platform is shaped by a team of dog lovers, researchers, product specialists and recognised experts who share a commitment to improving standards and helping owners make confident, informed decisions.
Rocket is older now, but he remains the reason this project began and a daily reminder of the value of compassionate and evidence based guidance.
Sincerely,
Hannah
